High Wallabarrow Cottage in Cumbria, a cottage in The Lakes, Cumbria and Lancashire

Popular cottage in the heart of working hill farm, superb walking and climbing.

The cottage is set in a beautiful sheltered corner of The Duddon Valley (Dunnerdale) amongst native SSSi oakwoods and flower-rich conservation meadows in a sweeping bend of the River Duddon. An area with ready access to easy river-side valley walks, challenging fell walking and climbing crags; Wallabarrow is a popular climbers crag, suiting beginners and experienced climbers. It's a great area for mountain biking and more challenging road-biking.

The cottage adjoins Wallabarrow farmhouse and overlooks the garden, beck, rocky crags and farmland. Plenty of space and farm animals for children and it's only a short woodland walk to the local country pub, The Newfield Inn, which is open all day serving good food and local beers.
A second nearby pub, The Blacksmith's Arms, serves excellent food and beer. It is a short car-ride away at Broughton Mills.

Wildlife and landscape conservation are priorities at this National Trust farm which lies at the base of Wallabarrow Crag. Only footpaths and bridleways continue beyond the farm into the fells. A perfect location for families, walkers, cyclists, bird-watchers and anyone needing to relax. Visitors may roam over the 450 acres of farm woodlands, pastures and hill ground.

The Cottage offers wonderful views of Dow Crag and Caw from the front door and views of Wallabarrow Crag from the back. The Dow Crag ridge-walk gives access to Coniston Old Man from the quiet side. From the head of the valley 7 miles north of the farm, there is easy access into the high central fells of Crinkle Crags, Bow Fell and the Scafell massif. Scafell Pike is the highest point in England at 3,210 feet above sea level.

Upstairs in the cottage there is a family bedroom containing a king size bed and a single bed.

The other bedroom is downstairs: It is a small bedroom with a four foot wide double bed located next to the bathroom. The bathroom has a bath with shower head attachment, a toilet and a hand basin.
There is a newly-fitted kitchen-diner, a separate living room with television (freesat and DVD) and large comfy sofa bed. This proves very useful for an extra guest.

The garden is at the back of the cottage. It has a lawn, shrubs and trees and a la'al beck. It is quite secluded; though shared occasionally with the farming family who run the cottage from next door. There is garden furniture and a charcoal barbeque can be provided by prior arrangement.

Ample parking is just yards from the door.

For larger groups wishing to stay at Wallabarrow, there are options to rent a camping barn which sleeps up to 10 and is located within it's own garth on the other side of the farm-yard. We also have basic options for smaller groups who would prefer to stay a little way away from the farm. Any combinations of accommodation are possible if, for example, you would like to holiday close to friends or with a larger extended family or are celebrating a birthday or other special occasion.
