Petite Maison de la Grange in Dordogne, a gite in Dordogne and Lot: Terrace

A TRANQUIL GITE ON WOODED HILLSIDE NEAR A PRETTY VILLAGE WITH A GREAT RESTAURANT

Delightful gite, part of an old barn, reached along a winding lane through flower meadows where it nestles in the hills. Care has been taken to retain the charm of the property while providing every possible creature comfort.

The spacious lounge has been comfortable furnished and has English and French TV. There is a modern kitchen fully equiped for easy living. There is lovely bedroom with a roomy king size bed and a luxury en suite bathroom with a heated towel rail. Both the lounge and the bedroom open onto a very pretty terrace, furnished for outdoor living and perfect for that romantic dinner or somewhere to sit with a good book. There is a gas BBQ.

The gite looks out across a beautiful wooded valley. There is a private garden with sun loungers for sunbathing or mature trees for those that prefer the shade.

For many the blissfully quiet location will be a chance to just relax, while others will want to walk, cycle or horse ride in the surrounding countryside and enjoy the rich and varied wildlife - deer, red squirrels, kites, golden oriole, nightingales, nightjars, hoopoe, a miriad of butterflies and abundant wild flowers.

The pretty village of St. Pompon is 10 mins walk away and has all basic shops, two bars and an excellant restaurant. Take time to to sit in the square with a cold beer and just watch life or saunter through the back lanes and soak in the ambiance. The village celebrates those long Saturday summer evenings with street parties - trestle tables and benches are provided, local food and wine sold at stalls, music played & dancing in the street - great fun.

At the picturesqe village of Daglan (5 mins away) there's the gourmet restaurant Petit Paris. Eat in the Square outside.... a very French experience.

The romantic cliff side villages of Beynac and La Roque Gageac are just a few minutes drive as is the bastide town of Domme with its wonderful views over the Dordogne.

The historic town of Sarlat with countless restaurants and colourful street markets is just a ride away and the Sunday street market at St,Cyprien takes some beating for atmosphere.

A visit would not be complete without time on a river. This might be paddling, swimming to an island, picnicing on the banks, perhaps a boat trip from La Roque Gageac or better still float down the river in a canoe - glorious!

Garden lovers are spoilt for choice with the fantastic topiary gardens at du Manoir d'Eyrignac at one end of the scale, to the lovely natural Jardins de l'Albrede at the other. The garden at Marqueyssac with its breathtaking views of the river and neighbouring chateaux is candlelit on Thursday evenings - Magical.

The region is known for its wooded valleys glorious rivers and 1000 fairy castles. There are also prehistory cave paintings ,art galleries, craft centres, wonderful restaurants, colourful bars, vineyards ....You won't be bored
