Maison Mireille in Dordogne, a gite in Dordogne and Lot: Master Bedroom

This charming cottage is part of a lovely old manoir built for Lord Manieres in 1715 and is reached along a winding lane through flower meadows to where it nestles in the hills. It is spacious, has glorious views and a lovely ambience.

There is a comfortable lounge overlooking a long garden and across the valley, a dining area overlooks a lovely courtyard and there is a fully equip kitchen. One bedroom is a double and the other has two single beds. Both are spacious and have luxury en suite bathrooms with heated towel rails. There is a conservatory at the rear perfect for eating, relaxing and enjoying views of the garden and across the valley. At the top of the garden is a patio with BBQ, sun loungers etc. and towards the bottom is a picnic table.

For many the blissfully quiet location will be an opportunity to relax while others will want to walk, cycle or horse ride in the surrounding countryside and enjoy the rich and varied wildlife - deer, red squirrels, kites, golden oriole, nightingales, nightjars, hoopoe, a miriad of butterflies & abundant wild flowers.

The pretty village of St. Pompon is 10 mins walk away and has all basic shops, two bars and an excellent restaurant. Take time to to sit in the square with a cold beer and just watch life or saunter through the back lanes taking in the ambience. The village celebrates those long Saturday summer evenings with street parties - trestle tables and benches provided, local food and wine sold at stalls, music played & dancing in the street - great fun! The picturesque village of Daglan is 5 mins away and whilst there try the gourmet restaurant Petit Paris. Try eating outside in the Square...Wonderful!

The romantic cliff side villages of Beynac and La Roque Gageac are within a few minutes drive as is the bastide town of Domme with its wonderful views over the Dordogne.

The historic town of Sarlat with countless restaurants and colourful street markets is just a ride away and the nearby Sunday street market at St Cyprien takes some beating for sheer vitality.

A visit would not be complete without time on a river. This might be paddling or swimming to an island, picnicking on the banks, perhaps a boat trip or better still float down the river in a canoe, it's glorious

Garden lovers are spoilt for choice, with the fantastic topiary gardens at du Manoir d'Eyrignac, at one end of the scale, to the lovely natural Jardins de l'Albrede at the other. The garden at Marqueyssac with its breathtaking views of the river and neighbouring chateaux is candlelit on Thursday evenings - magical!

The Dordogne is known for its wooded valleys, glorious rivers and 1000 Fairy Castles. There are also prehistory cave paintings, art galleries, craft centres, wonderful restaurants, colourful bars, won't be bored!

There are walnuts, a pot of jam and a bottle of Bergerac to greet you (all local)

Refundable damage dep. of £200 .
